Opening of Eat By Chloe Vegan Restaurant

February 8, 2018

On Monday night I headed down to Covent Garden with Lauren Baker for the opening of by CHLOE, the new vegan restaurant with roots in NYC, touted to be the new hot spot for veggies and non veggies alike.

Referred to as ‘the best vegan restaurant in town, maybe the world’ by Infatuation; awarded ‘best veggie burgers in NYC’ by Time Out New York; and named ‘2017 Top 100 Movers and Shakers’ by Fast Casual Magazine, by CHLOE

With those kind of credentials I was eager to see what all the fuss was about and of course get stuck in to some Mac n Cheese natch! The decor of the restaurant is an instagrammer’s dream with funky jungle wall paper, neon lights and basket style hanging chairs. I loved the vibe, a modern take on the old skool US diner with some Brooklyn hipster thrown in for good pleasure. We drank from mini prosecco bottles with hip hop infused party tunes supplied by presenter and vegan advocate Sarah-Jane Crawford. Guests included vegan influencers and celebrities such as Lucy Mecklenburgh, Lucy and Tiffany Watson, Epi Vegan and singer songwriter Zakabel.

The opening night food was basically a taster menu of all the classics and to mark its arrival to the UK, by CHLOE. had introduced  a series of exclusive menu items “London by CHLOE.” Taking inspiration from quintessential British dishes, like the vegan take on Classic Fish N’ Chips, Shepherd’s Pie, Pea N’ Ham Soup as well as Sticky Toffee Pudding.

The Fish N’ Chips was made up of crispy tofu served with the classic accompaniments of chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce. I’ve never had battered Tofu but I was pleasantly surprised, the texture was very much like that of fish and the flavour was tangy. I enjoyed the avocado pasta, it had a green pesto edge and was no doubt infused with cashew cream. The mac n cheese and was to die for, much creamier than other vegan versions I have tried..I definitely had two rounds! I finished on a sweet high with one of their vanilla frosted vegan cupcakes so yummy and light I took one for the train journey home.

On my next visit I’m intrigued to try their take on Shepherd’s Pie will be made from vegan ground seitan, veggies, mashed potato and served with Beet Ketchup.

The restaurant  seats up to 70 guests, offering the signature by CHLOE menu as well as ‘Grab and Go’ items and seasonally-changing market specials, unfortunately you can’t book and I imagine its going to be thriving!
